אגרות וכתבים, הדרכה לצעירים, רעט - יקירי, לא צריך להיות עצבני, יש מידות יסודיות שמהן מסתעפות כל שאר מידות והנהגות, ואחת העיקריות ביותר היא מנוחת-נפש, היינו לא להתעצבן. אפילו מיצר הרע אין להתעצבן. תפקידו באדם הוא – להציק בו, והאדם – מתנגד לו בדרך כלל. אבל איך שיהיה, מי שמנצח – אין לו להתעצבן ואין לשים לב. ואפילו אם אדם מרגיש שהיצר מאד מתקיף אותו, אין לו להתעצבן ולחשוב: ״איזה ילד רע אני שיש לי יצר כל כך גדול!״ אלא ידע נאמנה: ״בראתי יצר הרע, בראתי לו תורה תבלין״, כל ענינה של תורה הוא להיות תבלין ליצר, וזוהי העצה היחידה ללמוד הרבה תורה. ואם בכל-זאת היצר מציק, לא יתעצבן על היצר… על היצר לא צריך לשים לב כל כך. חזקה על כל בן-תורה שהוא מתנגד לו עד מאה ועשרים כמה שיוכל, יותר – אין לשים לב אליו. כך אני חשבתי בעצמי, ולא רציתי לסמוך על כך עצמי, ושאלתי את החזון איש זי״ע והוא הסכים לי.
