Research
It is important for you to clearly state your recommendations regarding the impulsive behavior cessation and the need for abstinence (or, in the case of shopping, a more controlled approach). Be sure to provide information regarding the fact that most clients with an ICD find it difficult to engage in the impulsive behavior in a controlled manner. Rather, a more realistic and healthy outlook would entail complete abstinence from the behavior. Grant, J. E., Donahue, C. B., & Odlaug, B. L. (2011).
